The cabin at Halley Park | On the way to The Journey Museum |
"Pap" Madison settled in the Black Hills in 1876. His cabin, which is considered the oldest building in Rapid City, was moved to The Journey Museum campus on New York Street for the public to enjoy. There it awaited for restoration unitl the RCHS Class of '55 arrived on the scene for its 60'th reunion. You can read more about the project and the move of the building in the Rapid City Daily Journal article

The RCHS Class of '55 took on the project of funding the restoration with the assistance of a matching grant from the Deadwood Historical Society, thus both giving back to our town, and providing a lasting legacy from the Class of '55

While we have met our goal, the project incurred an additional $700 due to a need to upgrade the concrete. We will apply any funds exceeding our goal to this additional cost, along with any residual funds in the class bank account when all reunion expenses have been paid (this latter by vote of the classmates in attendance).
Further contributions are appreciated.
This website will show you the
progress
we make toward the goal as the contributions come in.
Donation checks (tax deductible!) should be made out to The Journey Museum and sent to:
